By Political MoneyLine Staff The Chamber of Commerce of the U.S. and its affiliated U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform each broke their own record for lobbying expenditures and their combined total skyrocketed to $49,220,000 for the last six months of 2006. This is more than double the amount reported in the first six months of 2006 when they spent a combined total of $23,520,000. This breaks their earlier combined record of $30,060,000 set during the first six months of 2004.
For calendar year 2006 the combination of the two reported spending $72,740,000 lobbying the executive and legislative branches with 56 lobbyists. That averages out to over $6 million a month for lobbying. The Chamber of Commerce of the U.S. reported spending $31,440,000 during the last six months of 2006. This was up from reporting $14,300,000 in the first six months of 2006. Their earlier record was $20,060,000 spent in the first six months of 2004.
