A FORMER spin doctor to ex-Lib Dem leader Paddy Ashdown is to head the Scottish Tories' election campaign.

Edinburgh-born John Read, 45, was media manager for Ashdown during the 1992 general election.

He also spent two years as director of communications for the England cricket team.

Scots Tory leader Annabel Goldie said: "People see in us a revitalised party with a fresh vision for Scotland.

"John's appointment is designed to further strengthen our external communications."
