No.10 aide Smith nets Olympic role PDF Print E-mail
PRWeek

16 Feb 2006

The body charged with delivering London’s Olympic infrastructure by 2012 has turned to a senior Downing St aide to lead its comms team.

Number 10 press office head of strategy Godric Smith will join the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) on a three-month contract on 27 February, leading a six-strong team.

The ODA exists currently as an interim organisation, but the forthcoming London Olympics Bill is expected to be given Royal Assent and make it an official body within the next two months.

Smith is credited with steering Number 10 through the Hutton Inquiry and was tipped to quit his role in 2004 before Tony Blair persuaded him to stay.

The ODA is charged with creating the roads, railways and venues for the 2012 Games. It will begin the search for a permanent director of comms next week.
